Join us March 26 for the next installment of our popular WEDU Wednesday series as 3GNY's own Interim Education & Outreach Coordinator Wendy Tepper shares the story of her grandfather, Oscar Cukierman.
Oscar Cukierman, born in Bendzin, Poland in 1925, grew up in a family that ran a grocery store in their small town. During the war, Oscar was separated from his family in the ghetto and experienced the brutality of five concentration camps. His survival was thanks in part to the help of an unexpected supporter. In addition to his survival story, Oscar was known for his talents as a singer and his ability to speak ten languages. His life, marked by hardship and resilience, reflects a remarkable journey through some of the darkest moments of the 20th century.
About Wendy
Wendy Tepper is the granddaughter of Holocaust survivor Oscar Cukierman. Growing up as a 3G deeply influenced Wendy’s decision to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education at Penn State University. Inspired by her heritage, she dedicated herself to teaching students the values of kindness, advocacy, and celebrating diversity.
With 12 years of experience in the classroom, she has developed a strong foundation in education, which has prepared her for her current role as Interim Education and Outreach Coordinator at 3GNY. Outside of her work with 3GNY, Wendy enjoys baking, spending time with her husband Craig and two sons, Jake and Max, and being a dog mom to Teddy.
