About Our Speaker:

Holocaust Survivor Martin Bloch was born in 1935 in Ivje, Poland. In the earlier years of the war, the Nazis killed his father. Mr. Bloch, along with his mother and older brother, were forced into the local ghetto in Belarus. They escaped, and for a short time hid with non-Jews in a nearby forest before joining the Bielski brothers, a Jewish partisan group. Mr. Bloch is the youngest Bielski partisan.

When the war ended in 1945, they went to the Bergen-Belsen Displaced Person Camp where they remained for 7 years. In 1952, the family immigrated to New York. Mr. Bloch founded Frequency Electronics Incorporated, and lectures a great deal on two subjects. One is space timing navigation, his professional specialty. The second is an obligation he promised his brother Sam Bloch, to follow in his footsteps and keep everybody aware of what happened during the Holocaust and the Second World War.

The Oscar-nominated movie Defiance is based on the story of the partisans' struggle fighting for survival against the Nazis.
