Featured Speaker, Denise Krupit:
Denise was born in Alsace, the eastern part of France near the German/Swiss border, and was the second of three girls. Her mother was born in Hungary to Polish parents and emigrated to Alsace, her father was born in Poland, moved to Hungary, and then to moved to France where he met and married Denise’s mother. Both her parents were naturalized French citizens.
During the war, Denise was hidden with her sisters for two years in a Catholic women’s residence in Normandy. Only the Mother Superior and one other nun knew they were Jewish. Her parents remained in Paris and were hidden in a maid’s room for 2 years. They were reunited in September 1944 after Paris was liberated.
